Facing Adversity
We have all heard the cliché that when it rains it pours, and we all have had some type of adversity arise in our lives. How do you move forward and stay positive? Sometimes the pressures of life can have a very negative impact on how you respond to adversity. Do you sometimes feel there is no end to the problems you are facing? Do you feel that with each step forward, adverse circumstances pull you two steps back? Most of us have asked ourselves these questions many times but do not know how to come up with right answer to the question. I am here to offer you some helpful information about overcoming adversity and turning it into a positive experience.
Think of it this way: Adversity is a Symptom, Not a Cause
Adversity is a symptom of some other problem. For example: you lost your job, a loved one suddenly gets sick. However, your first priority is to handle the current situation, and you should make a mental note of the source of the problem. Always keep in mind that unless you solve the problem, you will keep getting into similar situations.
We are busy with our personal and professional lives and this does not allow us time to pause and appreciate the people we have around us. Adversity often awakens us to the treasures that are far more important than money or material possessions: our health, our family and our friends. We should learn from our adversities so it will not control you.
We will all have our share of pain, suffering, stress and other difficulties that we will face in life. I know we would all agree that life would be more pleasant without any of these hassles. Another view: In a world without hurdles, there are no champions; without suffering, there are no saints; without battles, there are no victories. A wise person rightly said that pain is inevitable but suffering is optional. You have to decide how much suffering your pain is going to inflict upon yourself and those around you.
Now it is time to reclaim the joy and peace that you deserve. Today I want you to celebrate life rather than cry about what is not going right in your life. God has granted you another day above ground and that is reason enough to celebrate. It’s time to rejoice in a new day and its opportunities. Love life, your family, friends, and most importantly love yourself.
Sometimes adversity is placed into your life to suggest that it is time to change your course. Take a look at your current circumstances. Ask yourself, is God trying to nudge me out of my comfort zone and turn this negative into a positive. As I close with this week’s motivational article. I want to leave you with this:
“God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference”.
